LANCASTER, WI — The Grant County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating a death in the Village of Montfort following a 911 call received in the early morning hours of October 1, 2025. The call, originating from a residence on W. Main St., reported an individual with a gunshot wound. A Sheriff’s Deputy, who was in the vicinity, responded within approximately three minutes and discovered the individual deceased inside the home.

The Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory’s Crime Scene Response Team was called to assist with processing the scene. Investigators, alongside the Grant County Coroner, have been diligently working throughout the day to gather evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family members.

Sheriff Craig Reukauf assures the public there is no immediate danger. To protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation, no further details are being released at this time. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
