DUBUQUE COUNTY, Iowa — Motorists traveling in rural Dubuque County should prepare for temporary traffic restrictions beginning Friday, Sept. 18, 2026, as county crews begin hot-mix asphalt (HMA) paving work on sections of New Melleray Road and N Cascade Road.

The construction project covers approximately 3.31 miles. Work will take place on New Melleray Road from Monastery Road to N Cascade Road, and on N Cascade Road from New Melleray Road to near Swiss Valley Road.

According to the Dubuque County road notification, the roads will remain open, but travel will be restricted to one-lane traffic during daylight hours. Pilot cars and flaggers will control the flow of vehicles while paving operations are underway.

Paving is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 18. The estimated duration of the project is five to seven weeks, depending on weather conditions.

Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time, follow all flagger and pilot-car instructions, and exercise caution in the work zones.
