PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — Grant County deputies initiated a traffic stop on a Platteville man Wednesday afternoon that escalated into a high-speed pursuit and ended with the suspect fleeing on foot into a wooded area, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 2:10 p.m. on August 26, 2026, deputies observed Stephen Henriksen, 43, of Platteville, driving south on Highway 80 in Platteville Township. Authorities said probable cause existed for Henriksen’s arrest on a harassment protection order violation, three counts of felony bail jumping, and misdemeanor bail jumping.

Deputies attempted to stop Henriksen’s vehicle. The stop turned into a pursuit in which speeds reached 90 mph. Deputies terminated the chase just before entering Platteville city limits.

Platteville Police Department officers then tried to stop Henriksen on Union Street. He did not stop, drove into his driveway, and was seen by law enforcement fleeing on foot into his residence.

Because of the felony offenses involved, officers entered the home to make the arrest. A neighbor later told authorities that Henriksen had exited through the back door and fled north into a large wooded area near a cornfield. A drone and multiple officers searched the area, but Henriksen was not located.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office said additional information will be referred to the Grant County District Attorney’s Office with a recommendation that Henriksen also be charged with felony eluding, obstructing, and multiple felony and misdemeanor bail jumping offenses.

Persons arrested or referred for charges by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. An arrest only indicates probable cause exists to bring formal charges. The names of victims and witnesses to a crime have been withheld per Wisconsin Statute §950.0.
