On August 27, 2026, at 1:08 a.m., the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a motorcycle-versus-deer crash with injuries on Highway 81 near Cadwell Road in Cassville Township.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they learned that Jason Udelhofen, 48, of Cassville, was traveling northbound on Highway 81 on a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Udelhofen struck a deer and was thrown from the motorcycle. He was transported to Grant Regional Health Center by Cassville EMS and was later flown by Med Flight to a hospital in Madison for further treatment. Udelhofen was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Cassville EMS, Cassville Fire, and Arrow Towing of Lancaster.

This incident remains under investigation.
