MANCHESTER, Iowa — A multi-vehicle crash on eastbound Highway 20 early Saturday morning left one person dead and two others injured, according to a preliminary report from the Iowa State Patrol.

The collision occurred at approximately 2:02 a.m. near mile marker 286 in Delaware County.

According to the Iowa State Patrol’s minimal crash report, two vehicles were parked on the shoulder of eastbound Highway 20 when a third vehicle traveling in the same direction struck them. The driver of one of the parked vehicles was outside assisting at the time of the impact.

The vehicles involved were a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, a 2010 Toyota Prius, and a 2015 Honda CR-V. All three were towed from the scene by Tegelers Towing.

One person, a 24-year-old from Dubuque, was pronounced dead. The body was transported to Ankeny by Leonard Muller Funeral Home.

Two other people, ages 20 and 32, both from Iowa City, sustained injuries and were transported to Regional Medical Center by Earlville Fire/EMS. One of the injured was not wearing a seatbelt, the report noted.

The drivers of the three vehicles were ages 21 (Lamotte), 20 (Iowa City), and 24 (Dubuque). Their names have been withheld pending further investigation.

Responding agencies included the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Manchester Police Department, Regional Medical Center, Earlville Fire & EMS, Leonard Muller Funeral Home, and Tegelers Towing.

The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the crash. No further details, including the cause, have been released.
