BAGLEY, Wis. — A 72-year-old Bagley man suffered minor injuries Sunday morning after his utility terrain vehicle (UTV) went over an embankment and rolled on his property along Dry Hollow Road.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call at 9:13 a.m. Aug. 2 reporting an injured person over an embankment on Dry Hollow Road outside Bagley. The caller reported that her husband had been involved in a UTV crash.

Bagley First Responders and West Grant EMS were initially dispatched, along with a Sheriff’s Office sergeant. Responders located the driver, Dale Wood, 72, of Bagley, in his UTV, which had gone approximately 20-25 feet down the embankment and come to rest on its driver’s side. The location was far enough from the road that the vehicle was not visible from the roadway.

Additional resources were requested from the Bloomington Fire Department and members of the Southwest Wisconsin Technical Rescue team. Personnel on scene freed Wood from the UTV. He was assessed by EMS, carried to another UTV, and transported to Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster with minor injuries.

Investigators determined Wood had been backing his UTV near a wood pile on his property when the vehicle continued backward over the embankment and rolled several times.

Assisting agencies included Bagley First Responders and Fire Department, West Grant EMS, Bloomington Fire Department, and the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. The Southwest Wisconsin Technical Rescue Team (with members from Lancaster and Cassville fire departments) responded but was later disregarded.

The matter has been forwarded to Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Conservation Wardens.
