The Dubuque Miners, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit developmental football program based in Dubuque, Iowa, have secured a playoff berth in the 2026 Mid-West United Football League (MWUF) season. After finishing the regular season 8-3 overall and 6-2 in league play, the Miners earned the No. 5 seed and will travel for a first-round matchup against the Midwest Renegades on Saturday, August 1. 

The Miners play their home games at Chalmers Field on the University of Dubuque campus and emphasize community impact alongside competitive football. The organization focuses on athletic development, mentorship, leadership, and service in the Tri-State region of Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Players and coaches aim to build character and opportunity while representing Dubuque with pride. 

A Strong Turnaround Season

The 2026 campaign marked clear progress. Key results included early blowout wins, such as an 84-14 victory over the Midwest Typhoons, a narrow 22-20 road win at the Burlington Blue Devils, and a 54-0 home win against the Quad City Bears. The Miners also defeated the Chicago Falcons on the road (20-12) and closed with a solid home win over Burlington (26-12). 

Setbacks came against stronger opponents. The Sheboygan County SaberCats handed the Miners two losses (including a 60-13 home defeat and a 61-2 road loss), and the regular-season finale against the undefeated Racine Raiders ended in a 46-0 defeat at Chalmers Field. That loss helped the Raiders clinch the MWUF Central Division and a top seed with a first-round bye. 

Despite the final-week result, the Miners improved dramatically from prior seasons and locked in a postseason spot as the No. 5 seed.

First-Round Opponent: Midwest Renegades

The Miners face the Midwest Renegades, a Bloomington, Illinois-based program and two-time MWUF champions (2022 and 2024). The Renegades also claimed the 2024 I-75 Bowl Series 3A Midwest title. Entering the playoffs with a strong record (recently listed around 6-2 in available standings data), they present a tough road test for Dubuque. 

The Renegades are known as a physical, experienced developmental team. For the Miners, the August 1 contest offers a chance to build on regular-season momentum, correct late-season issues, and continue their community-focused mission into the postseason.
