Dubuque, Iowa — Motorists traveling on South John Deere Road should prepare for significant traffic restrictions beginning next week as Dubuque County and Midwest Contractor begin a pavement patching project.

The construction is scheduled to start Monday, July 27, 2026, at 6:00 a.m. and is expected to last approximately 5 to 7 days, weather permitting. The work will affect a roughly 2,926-foot section of South John Deere Road from Highway 3 to Breiner Drive.

According to the Dubuque County Road Notification, crews will initially close the northbound lane, restricting travel to the southbound lane only. Once work on the northbound lane is complete, contractors will shift operations to close the southbound lane.

•  South John Deere Road intersections with Highway 3 and Tanzanite Drive will be closed during construction.

•  The closure will begin at the intersection with Highway 3 and extend just south of Breiner Drive.

•  Drivers should expect delays and plan alternate routes where possible.
