The Dubuque Fire Department responded to a reported residential structure fire on the morning of June 18, 2026, at 71 Lois Street.

Dubuque Fire Department units were dispatched at 9:20 a.m. and arrived on scene within 4 minutes of dispatch. Upon arrival, first fire crews on scene conducted a size-up of the residence and observed visible, black smoke coming from an exterior basement access door.

Responding units included Engine 1, Engine 5, Engine 6, Truck 1, Truck 4, Medic Unit 4, Battalion 1, and Car 5 (Safety), placing 17 firefighters on scene.

Firefighters immediately forced entry into the residence and advanced an attack line in the exterior basement entrance area, where they encountered heavy smoke conditions and located a fire involving materials stored within the basement. Crews quickly extinguished the fire and completed ventilation operations to remove smoke from the structure.

The fire was contained to the area of origin with no significant extension to other portions of the residence. No civilian injuries were reported. One firefighter was transported from the scene for evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary property and contents loss is estimated at $8,000.

The incident is being investigated by the Dubuque Fire Department and has not been determined to be suspicious in nature.

The Dubuque Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Dubuque Police Department.
