
| Multicultural Family Center Celebrates Juneteenth with Weekend of EventsThe Multicultural Family Center (MFC) will celebrate Juneteenth this weekend with three days of events as part of the center’s 16th annual celebration. The theme of this year’s celebration is “Forever Resilient.”Juneteenth, also called Emancipation Day, celebrates the day in 1865 when the abolition of slavery was announced in Texas. Although the Emancipation Proclamation was issued on January 1, 1863, it was not immediately announced or enforced in all states. It wasn’t until June 19, 1865, more than two years later, that the abolition of slavery was fully enforced throughout the country.This year’s Juneteenth celebrations in Dubuque will take place over three days:Friday, June 19: History Retold – Highlighting the history of Black culture through art, performances, fashion, and food. Event begins at 5:45 p.m. at the MFC, 1157 Central Ave.Saturday, June 20: Picnic in the Park – Featuring a talent show with cash prizes, raffles, bounce house, games, community and business booths, door prizes, free food, and food for purchase from food trucks. Starting at 12 p.m. at Jackson Park, 1500 Main St.Sunday, June 21: Prayer and Praise – Celebrate through word and song with a variety of Dubuque congregations.
