2nd Hand Play Room Relocates to Dubuque, Expands Mission to Support Local Families

DUBUQUE, Iowa — A unique, community‑driven play space has officially opened its doors in Dubuque. 2nd Hand Play Room, now located at 2095 Kerper Boulevard, has relocated from Wisconsin with a mission centered on affordability, sustainability, and kindness.

The business is owned by Addison Williams, a single mother of three boys who created the playroom as a way to support both her family and the wider community. The concept is simple but impactful: the playroom is filled with second‑hand toys donated by local families or rescued from the waste stream, giving children a safe, fun, and low‑cost place to play.

“We use toys that kids in the community have outgrown,” Williams said. “It keeps items out of landfills and helps us make play accessible for everyone.”

More Than a Playroom

2nd Hand Play Room offers a variety of programs designed to remove financial barriers and encourage community connection. These include:

• Free Play Days for families who may not be able to afford admission
• A Pay‑It‑Forward Board, allowing visitors to sponsor play sessions for others

Seeking Sponsors and Silent Auction Donations

To help sustain its programs, the playroom is currently seeking sponsors, community partners, and donations for an upcoming silent auction. All proceeds from the auction will fund a future Free Play Day, ensuring that cost is never a barrier for local families.
