Grant County Wisconsin: On July 21, 2023 at 11:35 AM, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received calls about a two vehicle crash on Hwy 81 at Jentz Baker Rd (east). It was reported that multiple people were injured in the accident.

The investigating deputy learned that Kristina Steiner, 47, of Platteville, WI, was driving her 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix north on Hwy 81, approaching that intersection. She was accompanied by her two minors (16 and 13). A 13-year-old was sitting in the front passenger seat and a 16-year-old was sitting in the back. At the same time, Du Wayne Lynch, 62, of Platteville, drove his 2004 Saturn Ion on Jentz Baker Rd at the stop sign on Hwy 81. The car’s front passenger was 57-year-old Darren Hogan of rural Platteville. A witness to the crash drove directly behind the Steiner vehicle.

An eyewitness to the collision said Lynch’s vehicle pulled out of the stop sign as Steiner’s approached the intersection.This was in front of Steiner. Steiner reportedly swerved to the left to avoid hitting Lynch’s vehicle. However, he was unable to do so as Lynch continued to pull out of the intersection. When Steiner’s vehicle hit Lynch’s driver’s side, Highway 81 was blocked in both directions while both vehicles rested.

Steiner and her 16-year-old child were transported to a local hospital with the child later transferred to a Madison hospital.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Platteville Fire Department, Southwest Health EMS, Lancaster EMS, UW-Platteville Police Department, SOS Road Rescue of Platteville, and Arrow Towing of Lancaster.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
