On June 15, 2023, at approximately 2:16 pm, the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a semi versus UTV on Hwy 61 in Rockville. Potosi Fire and EMS, as well as deputies, were dispatched.

After an investigation, it was determined that Wilbert Post, age 92 of rural Potosí, was operating his John Deere Gator on Hwy 61 just north of Old County B. Joseph Midyett, age 26 of Dysart Iowa, was traveling south on Highway 35/61 approaching Rockville driving a semi and trailer for Schneider Trucking.

As the two vehicles approached each other, Post made an abrupt left turn in front of the semi to turn into a driveway. The semi struck the front of the Gator. Post was thrown from the Gator and transported by Potosi EMS and later Med-flight to UW Madison. Post’s abrupt turn caused the semi to swerve to avoid the collision. However, it was unable to do so in time, causing the semi to strike the Gator.

Assistance was provided by the Wisconsin State Patrol, Guy’s Truck and Tractor, Arrow Towing, Lancaster EMS, Lancaster Fire, and Potosi Fire and EMS.

The crash remains under investigation.
