SCAM ALERT!!!!! Just a quick heads up to all of our followers out there, we have received several calls regarding a phone scam hitting our area the last couple days. The scammers are claiming to be Captain Dan Richman from the Sheriff’s Office and the scam victim is the subject of a warrant for missing jury duty or some other minor infraction. The caller then advises the victim they need to pay over the phone to prevent being arrested. Although Captain Richman is a real person who works for us, he has no involvement with this scam.
We are asking for citizens to please be vigilant with these phone calls. We also want to remind everyone out there that we will never call you and ask for personal banking information, and we absolutely never accept gift cards as form of payment. We also rarely notify people when they have a warrant unless that has been prearranged by the officer filing charges and the suspect they are dealing with at the time.
Just an FYI in addition to this, one phone number the scammers are using is 563-600-2578. If you are a victim of a scam, please contact dispatch at 563-589-4415 and an officer in your respective jurisdiction will meet with you. Thanks, and stay safe!
