LANCASTER, Wis. — A single-vehicle slide-off into a ditch on Highway 35/81 near Gray’s Mills Road escalated into an arrest Friday afternoon after the driver exhibited signs of impairment and became combative with responding deputies.
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 2:42 p.m. on June 7, 2026, following reports of a pickup truck and attached trailer that had left the roadway. Upon arrival, the deputy found the trailer obstructing the eastbound lane of the highway, creating a traffic hazard in the area.
When deputies made contact with the driver, Jamie Walker, 49, of Elgin, Illinois, he displayed obvious signs of impairment. As the investigation progressed, Walker became uncooperative, refused to comply with lawful commands, and exhibited resistive behavior toward law enforcement, authorities said.
A Grant County deputy deployed a taser, which immediately incapacitated Walker. He was taken into custody without further incident and placed in handcuffs. Walker was transported to Grant Regional Health Center for medical evaluation and clearance before being lodged at the Grant County Jail.
Walker faces charges of:
• Operating While Intoxicated (3rd Offense)
• Disorderly Conduct
• Resisting or Obstructing an Officer
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Lancaster Fire Department and Arrow Towing of Lancaster, which helped secure the vehicle and clear the roadway.
Presumption of Innocence
As with all arrests made by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Jamie Walker is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. An arrest is based on probable cause and does not constitute a final determination of guilt. The names of any victims or witnesses have been withheld in accordance with Wisconsin Statute §950.04.
