In July 2020, an intoxicated 26-year-old Shaw Turner Sr. propositioning them, trying to force a woman and her daughter to leave with him in the 2300 block of Central Ave.

Jeremy Vasquez, 41, saw the incident and got involved and a scuffle took place with Turner, Vazquez left. When leaving the scene in a Van Turner Sr. fired shots, one hitting Vazquez in the upper leg.

Turner took an Alford plea to charges of intimation and burglary. His plea is not a confession of wrongdoing, but the defendant’s admission that enough evidence exists to convict him.

Sentencing is set for November in Iowa District Court, in Dubuque County.

The prosecutor is recommending a ten-year sentence.
