The South Western United States is in a crisis, needing fresh water. The Plan would be to build a canal from The Mississippi River to the Colorado River, costing taxpayers billions of dollars and putting navigation and wildlife on the Mississippi in danger, and stealing water from the Midwest under federal oversight.
The South West Can Get Water From the Pacific Ocean and leave our river along. The Mississippi River is a major waterway transporting goods.
Barges account for 200 million tons of shipping annually on the Mississippi River.
A better plan would be to do what the country of Israel has done and build distillation plants to take the salt out of Ocean Water for use and leave our river a long.
Bottom-line, weather changes our river and it has years of flooding and years of drought that affect navigation. We don’t need to be sending water west. The Great Plains and the Mississippi River corridor have experienced several severe drought events in the last 100 years, including droughts of the early 1930s, 1988, and 2012
