The City of Dubuque is advising residents to be prepared for significant traffic impacts and parking restrictions related to President Trump’s visit to Dubuque Sunday, Nov. 1, for a campaign event at Five Flags Center.

Dubuque public safety staff are working closely with event organizers and federal agencies on security plans. Parking restrictions will go into effect as early as Friday evening, Oct. 30th. Full closures of streets and parking restrictions will be required around Five Flags Center, including Locust St. and other surrounding streets beginning on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 31. Pedestrian routes in the area will also be affected Sunday, Nov. 1, due to the anticipated high volume of pedestrian traffic and event-related detours. Residences and businesses will still be accessible via Bluff St., Main St., and alleyways.

The arrival and departure of the presidential motorcade Sunday will require complete closures of several roadways including in downtown Dubuque. Motorists should expect delays throughout the day Sunday. The arrival and departure of event attendees is also expected to impact local traffic.

“Our focus is the safety of our community and our guests,” said Dubuque Police Chief Joe Messerich. “The event sponsors are expecting thousands of attendees and the security restrictions for the event make it challenging logistically.”

“We ask people to be patient with the temporary inconveniences caused by this event and be respectful in their interactions with each other,” added Messerich.

The Federal Aviation Administration is instituting a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) related to the event on Sunday. No drones or aircraft will be allowed to operate around the restricted zone, which will include Five Flags Center.
