DUBUQUE, Iowa — Oct. 30, 2026 — The Grand River Center in Dubuque has again earned a place on a national list of top convention centers, marking the second consecutive year the riverfront facility has received the recognition.
The Oak View Group, which operates the center, announced that Exhibitor Magazine has named the Grand River Center one of North America’s Top 25 convention centers. The honor puts the Dubuque facility in company with major convention destinations across the United States and Canada, and it repeats the center’s appearance on the same list last year.
The recognition does not stop there. The Grand River Center is also one of three finalists for the Best Convention Center award in the category for facilities with less than 100,000 square feet of exhibit space. The center won that category’s title last year and is now in position to defend it. Winners in the category will be announced later this year, according to the announcement.
For a mid-sized river city, a repeat national ranking carries weight beyond a single plaque. Convention centers compete for meetings, trade shows, reunions, and sporting events that fill hotel rooms, restaurants, and shops in the surrounding downtown. A second straight year on a continent-wide top-25 list gives Dubuque’s sales teams a fresh credential when pitching event organizers who may be weighing larger cities against smaller, more affordable hosts.
The Grand River Center sits on Dubuque’s riverfront in the Port of Dubuque district, alongside the city’s hotel, museum, and riverwalk attractions. The facility hosts conventions, banquets, expos, and community gatherings throughout the year, drawing visitors from across the tri-state area and beyond. Its size places it in a competitive tier of venues that trade on flexibility and service rather than sheer scale, which is the category in which it is now a finalist for a second year.
The Oak View Group operates venues across North America, and the Exhibitor Magazine ranking is compiled from the trade publication’s assessment of convention facilities. The specific criteria and scoring behind this year’s list were not detailed in the local announcement, and the date of the awards announcement for the Best Convention Center category remains pending.
Still, the back-to-back recognition signals consistency. A single-year appearance on a national list can reflect one strong season. A repeat appearance, paired with a return trip to the finals in its size category, suggests the center is holding its standing among comparable venues rather than slipping after its title-winning year.
Whether the center repeats as category winner will be known when the awards are announced later this year. Until then, Dubuque can claim a distinction few facilities of its size hold: a two-year run among the continent’s top 25 convention centers.
