Dubuque County, IA – Motorcycle riders, car enthusiasts, and community supporters will gather for the 18th Annual Research for the Kids Benefit Poker Run Ride on Saturday, September 19, 2026. The event runs from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. along a roughly 53.24-mile route through rural Dubuque County.

Research for the Kids, a local nonprofit, organizes the annual Poker Run (Ride/Drive) to raise funds for pediatric brain tumor and heart defects research programs at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. All proceeds support this cause. The organization was founded in memory of Sarah Reiss and to honor Matthew Wessels, reflecting a deeply personal commitment to finding cures for children facing these serious health challenges.

Participants will travel county roads including Key West Dr, Military Rd, Lake Eleanor Rd, O’Rourke Dr, Olde Davenport Rd, Bernard Rd, Garryowen Rd, Farley Rd, Holy Cross Rd, Ridge Rd, Balltown Rd, and Sherrill Rd. Temporary delayed travel restrictions will be in place for local residents and traffic during the event hours to help ensure safety for riders and drivers. Emergency vehicles will retain full access if needed.

Registration is typically held in the morning at Happy’s Place in Dubuque, with riders departing later in the morning. Stops along the route often include locations such as Bernard Park, Dirty Ernie’s in Farley, and The Barn in Sherrill. Participants collect cards at stops for a chance at prizes while supporting the cause. The event is open to motorcycles, cars, and other vehicles.
