DUBUQUE COUNTY, Iowa — On Saturday, August 29, 2026, the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and law enforcement agencies across Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin for a focused enforcement initiative targeting drunk driving and related offenses. The goal is to save lives by removing impaired drivers from the roadways. 

The multi-agency effort emphasizes high-visibility enforcement of operating while intoxicated (OWI) and similar laws. Officials stress that the campaign aims to deter impaired driving through increased patrols and interagency coordination in the tri-state region.

“As always, we encourage those who choose to drink to do so responsibly and to utilize ride-share services when needed,” the Sheriff’s Office stated. Planning ahead for a safe ride home—whether through designated drivers, taxis, or services like Uber or Lyft—remains one of the most effective ways to prevent tragedies.

Drunk driving continues to pose a serious risk on regional roads. Similar statewide campaigns, such as Wisconsin’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” efforts around the Labor Day period, highlight ongoing concerns about alcohol- and drug-impaired crashes. 

Local residents are urged to make safety a priority. Enjoy social gatherings, but never get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol or other impairing substances. The partnership with MADD underscores a community-wide commitment to reducing the human cost of impaired driving.
