DUBUQUE, Iowa — Dubuque Fire and Rescue crews responded Thursday evening to Thomas Jefferson Middle School, 1105 Althauser Street, Dubuque, Iowa 52001, following reports of a fire at the school.

A significant emergency response was underway at the school as multiple fire and rescue vehicles arrived at the scene. Firefighters entered the building as crews worked to investigate the situation and locate the source of the fire. A ladder truck was positioned above the school, with a powerful floodlight illuminating the area as firefighters worked. Light smoke could be seen coming from the building during the response.

Witnesses in the area reported noticing a burnt smell coming from the school as emergency crews arrived. Firefighters remained on scene while the building was checked and the situation was brought under control. Officials had not immediately released additional information regarding the cause of the fire, the extent of any damage, or whether there were any injuries.
