South Lancaster Township, Wis. — A two-vehicle collision at the south intersection of Highways 35/61 and 129 left one driver injured on Thursday afternoon, July 16, 2026.

According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 4:22 p.m. when a southbound 2016 Hyundai Tucson driven by Shelia Vella, 74, of Lancaster, turned north onto Highway 129 in front of a northbound vehicle operated by Cody Marnes, 41, also of Lancaster.

Deputies reported that Vella told investigators she believed Marnes was going to turn north onto Highway 129 and proceeded with her turn. Marnes, however, continued northbound on Highway 61, leading to the collision.

After impact, Marnes’ vehicle left the roadway, traveled into the west ditch line of Highway 129, and struck two road signs before coming to a stop. Both drivers were evaluated at the scene by Lancaster EMS. Marnes was released without transport, while Vella was taken by ambulance to Grant Regional Health Center for further treatment.

Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene. Vella was issued a citation for failure to yield the right of way.

Emergency responders from the Lancaster Fire Department and Lancaster EMS assisted at the scene along with Grant County deputies.

No further injuries were reported.
