Jamestown Township, Wis. — Early Thursday morning, a reported vehicle theft in progress at a rural residence on Eagle Point Road ended with the arrest of a Dubuque man facing multiple charges, including theft of a motor vehicle and operating while intoxicated.
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, the Grant County Communication Center received the call at 3:57 a.m. on July 16, 2026. Deputies responding to the scene discovered a White Lexus RX with its driver’s door open at the residence. Nearby was a Black BMW showing significant front-end damage, consistent with a recent collision.
An investigation revealed that the BMW had struck a gate at the entrance to the private drive, continued down the driveway, and that its operator then attempted to steal the property owner’s Lexus. The suspect fled the area on foot before deputies could apprehend him at the scene.
A short time later, the driver was located walking along Sandy Hook Road and taken into custody. He was identified as Zachary Carr, 38, of Dubuque, Iowa.
Carr faces charges of theft of a motor vehicle, operating while under the influence (2nd offense), criminal damage to property, and trespassing. He was transported to the Grant County Detention Center.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office and the East Dubuque Police Department.
Persons arrested or referred for charges by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. An arrest indicates only that probable cause exists to bring formal charges. The names of victims and witnesses have been withheld in accordance with Wisconsin Statute §950.04.
