
POTOSI, Wis. — A 58-year-old Dickeyville man and his passenger were hospitalized after their motorcycle struck a deer on Old Potosi Road Tuesday evening.
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 8:42 p.m. on June 30, 2026, near the intersection of Seemore Ridge Road in the Township of Potosi. Henry Melssen was operating a 2004 Harley Davidson southbound when a deer suddenly entered the roadway and collided with the left front portion of the motorcycle. The impact sent the motorcycle into the ditch on the right side of the road.
Melssen suffered a broken leg and was transported to Finley Hospital by Potosi EMS. His passenger, Maria Melssen, also sustained injuries and was taken to the same hospital by ambulance. The motorcycle sustained minor damage and was towed from the scene by Donny’s Tire and Auto of Dickeyville.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by Potosi Fire, Potosi EMS, and Donny’s Tire and Auto. No further details on the condition of the injured parties or the deer were immediately available.
