PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — A single-vehicle incident early Sunday morning in the township of Platteville resulted in the arrest of a Darlington woman on a second offense charge of operating while intoxicated (OWI).
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, the Grant County Communication Center received a report at approximately 4:17 a.m. on June 28, 2026, of a vehicle that had gone into a ditch along County D near College Farm Road. The reporting party indicated the driver was attempting to extricate the vehicle from the ditch when authorities were called.
Deputies from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene with assistance from the Platteville Police Department. Upon arrival, officers identified the driver as Alyssa Tiegs, 32, of Darlington.
Tiegs was found to be uninjured, and the truck she was operating sustained no apparent damage. However, during the course of the investigation, Tiegs displayed signs of impairment, leading to her arrest on suspicion of operating while under the influence — her second such offense.
Ripps Towing was called to remove the vehicle from the ditch. No other injuries or property damage were reported.
Wisconsin law treats a second OWI offense with increased penalties compared to a first offense, which can include longer license suspension periods, higher fines, mandatory alcohol assessment and treatment programs, and potential jail time. Prosecutors will now review the case to determine formal charges.
As is standard in such reports, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office noted: “Persons arrested or referred for charges by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. An arrest only indicates probable cause exists to bring formal charges.”
The names of any victims or witnesses have been withheld in accordance with Wisconsin Statute §950.0.
