PLATTEVILLE, WI — The Platteville Police Department is reminding residents to lock their vehicles and remove keys after a series of preventable thefts reported over the past month.

According to the department, officers have taken four stolen‑vehicle reports in recent weeks. In each case, the vehicle had been left unlocked with the keys inside. Police say they have also seen an increase in reports of vehicles being rummaged through, with property missing in several incidents.

The department is urging residents to take simple steps to reduce their risk:

Lock your vehicle every time you park it

Remove keys and key fobs from inside the vehicle

Avoid leaving valuables in plain sight

Report suspicious activity immediately

Anyone who becomes a victim of theft or vehicle tampering is encouraged to contact the Platteville Police Department at 608‑348‑2313.
