
DUBUQUE, Iowa — Dubuque police are investigating a shooting that left a 39-year-old local man with a leg wound after officers responded to a reported physical disturbance Monday evening.
According to a police press release, officers were dispatched to the area of 20th and Jackson Streets at approximately 8:27 p.m. Monday May 25, 2026. Upon arrival, they located Kenneth Dunbar of Dubuque suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. Officers provided immediate medical aid until the Dubuque Fire Department arrived and transported Dunbar to MercyOne Hospital for further treatment.
The suspect or suspects fled the scene before police arrived. Investigators have described the incident as appearing to be an isolated event with no immediate threat to the broader public. The case remains active.

Police have not released additional details about the circumstances leading to the shooting, the identity or description of any suspect(s), or whether the incident stemmed from a verbal argument, domestic situation, or other conflict.
