Dubuque County officials have announced the full closure of a section of Hannan Road starting Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 7:00 AM for a critical bridge replacement project. The work will impact drivers in the rural areas between N. Bankston Road and Park Hollow Road.

Project Details

•  Road Affected: Hannan Road

•  Closure Segment: From N. Bankston Road to Park Hollow Road

•  Length of Work Zone: Approximately 2,682 feet

•  Project Type: Bridge replacement (removal of the existing old bridge and construction of a new one)

•  Estimated Duration: 15 to 18 weeks, weather permitting

•  Closure Type: Complete road closure for the length of the work zone during construction

The project aims to replace an aging bridge structure with a new, safer crossing. Bridge replacements of this nature typically involve significant engineering work, including demolition of the old structure, foundation work, installation of new beams and decking, approach grading, guardrail installation, and final paving.

Traffic Impact and Detours

During the 15–18 week period, Hannan Road will be fully closed at the bridge location. Local traffic and through traffic will need to use alternate routes. Residents and businesses in the immediate area should prepare for longer travel times, especially for agricultural equipment, delivery vehicles, and daily commuters.

Recommended Actions for Drivers:

•  Plan alternate routes in advance using GPS or county maps.

•  Expect increased traffic on parallel roads such as nearby segments of Bankston Road, Park Hollow Road, or other connecting county highways.

•  Allow extra time for trips through the southwest or western parts of Dubuque County.

•  Watch for temporary signage, flaggers, or construction vehicles entering/exiting side roads.
