DUBUQUE, IA — The roar of vintage engines and the rhythmic strum of rockabilly guitars echoed across the Dubuque County Fairgrounds this past weekend as the annual Vintage Torque Fest concluded its 2026 run. Saturday saw a massive turnout, cementing the event’s reputation as the premier kickoff to the midwest hot rod season.

The fairgrounds were transformed into a living time capsule, packed with thousands of spectators, gearheads, and families who braved the early May air to celebrate “Kustom Kulture.”

A Saturday to Remember

Saturday is traditionally the “big day” for Torque Fest, and 2026 was no exception. From the moment the gates opened at 9:00 AM, a steady stream of pre-1964 hot rods, custom builds, and vintage motorcycles flooded the grounds.

Key Highlights of the Day Included:

• The Dirt Track Action: Spectators lined the fences for the fan-favorite dirt drag racing and mini-bike scrambles. The sight of vintage steel kicking up Dubuque dust remains the event’s signature spectacle.

• Live Music Marathon: Three stages featured a non-stop rotation of bands. From surf-rock to honky-tonk, the music provided a high-octane soundtrack for the sea of pompadours and flannel.

• The Swap Meet & Vendors: Collectors scoured the swap meet for elusive parts, while the indoor vendor halls were packed with artists selling everything from pinstriped lifestyle gear to custom metalwork.

More Than Just a Car Show

While the chrome and paint jobs were the primary draw, the heart of the event remained its charitable mission. Vintage Torque Fest continues to serve as a major fundraiser for the Helping Hannah’s Heart Foundation, which assists families dealing with congenital heart defects.

“There’s a specific energy here you don’t find at typical car shows,” noted one attendee. “It’s about the people and the cause just as much as the machines.”

Closing Out the Season Kickoff

As the sun set on Saturday, the “Flame Throwing” exhibition and late-night sets from the headlining bands provided a glowing finale to the weekend. With campers packing up on Sunday morning, the consensus among the Dubuque community was clear: Vintage Torque Fest 2026 was a roaring success.

If you missed out this year, the organizers are already looking toward 2027 to keep the tradition of “good music, good cars, and good people” alive in the Key City.
