CASSVILLE, Wis. — A heavy fog contributed to a rear-end collision on Thursday, April 16, 2026, involving a semi-truck and an SUV on Highway 81 near Cadwell Road in Cassville Township, Grant County.
At approximately 8:30 a.m., the Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash with injuries. Deputies and emergency crews from Cassville EMS, Cassville Fire Department, and B&M Towing arrived at the scene.
Kevin Bausch, 59, of rural Cassville, was driving his 2000 Peterbilt semi-truck eastbound on Highway 81 after turning off Cadwell Road. Chelsea Shea, 44, also of rural Cassville, was traveling eastbound in her 2008 Chevrolet Suburban. Both vehicles were moving well below the posted speed limit.
Due to dense fog, Shea did not see the semi-trailer and struck the rear of the enclosed trailer, causing disabling damage to her Suburban.
Shea suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by Cassville EMS to Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. A juvenile passenger in the Suburban was uninjured, as was Bausch.
Shea was cited for not wearing a safety belt and for her passenger not being properly restrained. No citations were issued to Bausch.
The incident highlights the dangers of driving in low-visibility conditions and the importance of seat belt use. Authorities continue to investigate.
