
DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Dubuque City Council has approved a revised ordinance on consumer fireworks use, reflecting new Iowa legislation. Municipalities can no longer ban fireworks during daylight hours on July 3, 4, and December 31.
Under the new rules, fireworks are permitted:
• 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on July 3,
• 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on July 4,
• 9 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on December 31.
Use is banned on all other days and restricted to private property with owner consent. Public areas like streets, parks, and trails are off-limits.
Residents are urged to use caution due to potential fire risks in dry weather and consider neighbors, especially children, pets, and those with PTSD. Violations are simple misdemeanors with a minimum $250 fine. Report issues to 563.589.4415.
