MONTFORT, Wis. — A 42-year-old Montfort man was seriously injured Saturday morning when his motorcycle left the roadway on Route 66 in Grant County’s Wingville Township, striking a tree and crashing through a barbed-wire fence into a nearby pasture.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at approximately 11:25 a.m. on June 13, 2026, from a local resident who reported hearing someone yelling for help in a pasture along Route 66. The resident went to assist and discovered the crash scene. Deputies from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, a trooper from the Wisconsin State Patrol, and first responders from the Montfort Fire Department and Montfort EMS were dispatched to the location.
According to authorities, Travis Mulrooney was riding a 1985 Harley-Davidson eastbound on Route 66 when he failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle left the roadway, entered the south ditch, and collided with a tree before continuing through a barbed-wire fence and coming to rest in the pasture.
Mulrooney was transported by Montfort EMS to a landing zone in the Village of Montfort, where he was transferred to a medical helicopter and flown to UW Hospital in Madison with life-threatening injuries. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and speed is believed to have been a contributing factor, officials said.
Members of the Montfort Fire Department, Montfort EMS, and Haase’s Towing Service assisted at the scene. The Wisconsin State Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash.
No other vehicles were involved.
