POTOSI, WI—On Sunday, May 4, 2025, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a truck crashing into a home on Highway 61 in the Town of Potosi.

Upon arrival, deputies identified the driver as Andrew Chapman, 34, of Potosi, who was operating a 2001 Ford F-350. According to Chapman, he had driven through the parking lot of Midway Pub before continuing down a private driveway behind the tavern. He told deputies that his brakes failed, leading to the vehicle crashing through a wall of the residence.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the accident.

Authorities noted that Chapman exhibited signs of impairment, and following an investigation, he was arrested for operating while under the influence, second offense. He was also cited for failure to maintain control of a vehicle.

Persons arrested or referred for charges by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. An arrest only indicates that probable cause exists to bring formal charges. The names of victims and witnesses to the incident have been withheld in accordance with Wisconsin Statute §950.04.
