On Monday, January 27th, 2025, at 1:14 PM, the Dubuque Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from a concerned citizen reporting a fire inside a neighbor’s home. Within minutes, the Dubuque Fire Department responded to the scene, sending a total of 19 firefighters.
Engine 506 arrived first, reporting heavy smoke and fire coming from the front and sides of the house, indicating a fully engulfed structure. Command 528 established Edison Street Command, and the remaining companies arrived to support defensive operations. Multiple water lines and an elevated master stream from Truck 511 were utilized to extinguish the fire.
Despite the challenging conditions caused by high winds and the proximity of two residential structures, the fire department managed to control the fire after an hour and extinguish it several hours later.
The Dubuque Police Department, Alliant Energy, Black Hills Energy, Public Works, the Dubuque Water Department, and the American Red Cross provided assistance on the scene, ensuring the safety of crews and the public.
Two adults and seven children were displaced from the fire and are currently being assisted by the American Red Cross with alternative housing.
Thankfully, there were no reported injuries to the firefighters. Crews also encountered one medical refusal from a citizen unrelated to the fire.
The home was deemed uninhabitable, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Dubuque Fire Department.
