October 19, 2024, at approximately 7:20 AM, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash with multiple injuries at the Hwy 11 overpass for Hwy 151, located in the Township of Jamestown. Anna Enriquez, age 69, from Jerseyville, IL, was traveling northbound on Hwy 151 in her 2004 Pontiac Vibe. Enriquez had four passengers riding with her. While traveling northbound on Hwy 151, Enriquez was negotiating the Hwy 11 (east) off-ramp. Enriquez mistakenly took the left lane of the off-ramp, which comes to a stop sign, instead of the right lane, which merges onto Hwy 11 east. Enriquez was traveling at highway speeds while approaching the stop sign at the top of the ramp. Enriquez did not stop at the stop sign and drove through the intersection.

At the same time, Cliff Bertling, age 67, from Cascade, IA, was traveling eastbound on Hwy 11 in his 2009 Ford Focus. Bertling had the right of way but struck the driver’s side of Enriquez’s vehicle. Both vehicles ended up in the northeast corner of the intersection and came to rest in the westbound lanes and/or north ditch line of Hwy 11. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage throughout. All occupants in both vehicles were wearing seatbelts. All six occupants in both vehicles sustained injuries, some minor, some more serious, but none were life-threatening. All occupants were transported via EMS to Mercy One and Finley Hospitals in Dubuque. Enriquez was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Jamestown Fire Department, Jamestown First Responders, Dickeyville EMS, Hazel Green EMS (2 ambulances), East Dubuque EMS, East Dubuque Fire Department, East Dubuque Police Department, Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, Guy’s Truck and Tractor of Kieler, and Kieler’s Service Center of Kieler.
