Residents of the Dubuque area, beware of the Sheriff’s Office warrant scam. Scammers are calling individuals claiming they have a warrant for their arrest and asking them to withdraw cash or buy gift cards to settle the bond. These calls are not from the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office. Remember, we do not accept gift cards as payment for warrants. Bond money is only collected at our office or the Clerk of Court at the courthouse. We would never ask to meet in a parking lot or to collect money at your house. If you have fallen victim to this scam, report it to your local law enforcement. Share this warning with older family members who may not be aware of this scam. Stay safe!
