Grant County Wisconsin – A plea and sentencing hearing was held on July 25, 2023, in Grant County Circuit Court regarding the June, 2023 shooting of Ari Williams, 36, of Madison after a disturbance in a bar nearly led to a fatality.
On June 19, 2021, in the early morning hours, Um Holder and Ari Williams, Holder’s soon-to-be son-in-law were at the Hell Inn Bar in Livingston, after attending a family event earlier in the day. They were drinking together and Williams shoved Holder to the floor when joking led to racist comments. Holder then left the bar and proceeded to his house where he retrieved a pistol and returned to the bar. Holder summoned Williams outside where Holder, who alleged during the hearing that Williams came at him, shot Williams four times in the abdomen. Holder shot Williams once in the face after Williams fell to the ground after those four shots (a bar patron witnessed the shooting).
The defendant was convicted on one count of Attempted 2nd Degree Homicide and sentenced by Grant County Circuit Court Judge Craig Day to a 20-year sentence; 13-year initial confinement with seven years of extended supervision
