TWO VEHICLE CRASH
On September 29, 2022, at 7:00 A.M., the Grant County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a two vehicle crash on Hwy 80 just south of Ebeneezer Road, in Clifton Township, involving a semi and a pickup truck. Roger Biefer (age 62 of Montfort) was driving his 2003 Peterbuilt semi south on Hwy 80, when he began to turn into a field drive. Vincent Helbing (age 23 of Fennimore), was driving his 2014 Chevy Silverado, south on Hwy 80 and was directly behind Mr. Biefer.
As Biefer turned west into the field drive, Helbing, who was focused on his radio in his truck, did not see Biefer’s right turn signal. Helbing attempted to pass Biefer in the south bound lane and shoulder, when Biefer turned into the driver’s side of Helbings truck. Both vehicles came to rest on the southbound shoulder of Hwy 80.
Emergency crews from Montfort Fire/EMS, along with Livingston/Clifton Fire and First Responders, were summonsed to the scene. Both Biefer and Helbing were evaluated by EMS at the scene and were released. Both parties involved were wearing seat belts. The semi received moderate damage and the truck was a total loss. Both vehicles were removed from the scene with the assistance of Biddick Farms and were later removed by a local towing company.
