On July 7, 2022, John Cook, Jr., pled guilty as part of a plea agreement to Burglary of a House of Worship, which is a Class 1 Felony. As a result of his plea of guilty, Judge John Hay sentenced Cook to 5 1⁄2 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. This sentence shall be followed by one (1) year of mandatory supervised release, formerly known as parole.
This arrest was the result of a response to a burglary in progress at a church in Elizabeth, Illinois. Deputies with the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office responded quickly, and they were able to apprehend Cook at the scene.
