DUBUQUE, Iowa — A 45-year-old Dubuque man was arrested early Thursday morning on charges of domestic assault involving the display of a weapon and first-offense possession of marijuana.

Alfred Sharp Newbern, identified as a Bwas taken into custody at approximately 3:06 a.m. on May 21, 2026, at 815 University Ave.

According to the report, Newbern faces two misdemeanor charges:

•  Domestic Assault / Display of Weapon

•  Possession of Controlled Substance – Marijuana (1st Offense)

The arrest was made by Officer M.J. Portz.
