Update – August 11, 2026

The victim of a fatal construction accident in Grant County has been identified as Joel Antonio Alverez Renderos, 44, of Darlington, Wisconsin.

On August 7, 2026, at approximately 8:10 a.m., the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a construction accident on County Road Q in Castle Rock Township. Callers reported that an individual had fallen through a roof and landed on the concrete floor below.

Emergency crews from Highland EMS, the Wisconsin State Patrol, and the Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. Deputies learned that a construction crew was at the property to repair the roof of a farm building. While working on the roof, one crew member fell through, dropping approximately 30 feet onto the concrete floor.

Co-workers immediately began rendering medical aid. Highland EMS and Wisconsin State Patrol personnel continued life-saving efforts upon arrival. Despite those efforts, the 44-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Grant County Coroner’s Office as a result of injuries sustained in the fall.

The investigation is being conducted by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Department of Labor – OSHA, and the Grant County Coroner’s Office. Assisting agencies include the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office, the Darlington Police Department, and Grant County Emergency Management.

The matter remains under investigation.
