DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Dubuque Fire Department quickly extinguished a small exterior fire Friday after a fallen tree pulled electrical service from a home at 2451 Jackson St., displacing one occupant and causing an estimated $10,000 in property damage.

The Dubuque Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call reporting smoke at the address at 11:54 a.m. Firefighters were dispatched within 20 seconds. Responding units included Battalion 1, Engine 1, Engine 3, Engine 5, Engine 6, Truck 1, Truck 4, Medic 1, Car 2 and Car 50 (Safety), bringing a total of 21 firefighters to the scene.

Upon arrival, Engine 3 reported smoke coming from the rear of the structure. Crews determined a tree had fallen onto an electrical service line, pulling the electric meter and service mast from the building and igniting a small amount of fire on the exterior.

Two hose lines were deployed, and the fire was brought under control within five minutes of arrival. Alliant Energy responded and disconnected power to the structure. Firefighters completed salvage and overhaul operations with no fire extension into the interior of the home.

One occupant was displaced. No injuries were reported among civilians or responders.
