DYERSVILLE, Iowa — The wait is over for baseball fans in eastern Iowa. The Northwoods League’s newest expansion team, set to begin play on Memorial Day 2027, will compete as the Dyersville Dreamers.
Team officials officially revealed the name and a full logo series today during a celebratory event at the Barn Event Center at The Field of Dreams. The announcement capped a highly engaged naming process that drew widespread community interest.
More than 425 name suggestions were submitted between May 7 and June 1, when five finalists were announced: Corn Dogs, Dreamers, Ghosts, Moonlighters, and Spirits. Fans then cast over 3,000 votes, with “Dreamers” emerging as a clear favorite. It received seven times more nominations than the runner-up and more than double the votes of the second-place name.
“This level of excitement and fan interaction for a brand-new team is unprecedented in our league,” said Dreamers owner and president Chris Goodell. “The fans hit a grand slam with Dreamers. The overwhelming support right out of the gate is truly inspiring.”
The team’s visual identity was created by veteran sports branding specialist John Worthen, whose previous work includes logos for multiple Northwoods League teams. The primary Dreamers logo incorporates iconic Field of Dreams and eastern Iowa elements, featuring a “John Deere Green” color palette. A standout detail is the bat held by the dreaming baseball player — a tribute to “Black Betsy,” the famous bat used by Shoeless Joe Jackson.
The logo series includes seven alternative designs and offers an early look at the team’s mascot, “Rookie.”
With the identity now public, the Dyersville Dreamers have launched their official website at www.dyersvilledreamers.com. Fans can purchase merchandise online immediately, with select items also available at The Professional Ballpark at the Field of Dreams during tonight’s Northwoods League Home Run Challenge and tomorrow’s All-Star Game.
The Dreamers will join the Northwoods League, the world’s largest organized baseball league and a premier developmental platform for elite college players. Now entering its 33rd season with 26 teams, the league draws strong attendance in a family-friendly atmosphere. It has produced 360 Major League Baseball alumni, including standouts such as Curtis Granderson, Max Scherzer, Chris Sale, Pete Alonso, Marcus Semien, Ben Zobrist, and Brandon Crawford. All games are streamed live at watchnwl.com and on FloSports.
The arrival of the Dyersville Dreamers adds another chapter to the rich baseball heritage of The Field of Dreams site while bringing fresh energy and opportunity to the region.
