DES MOINES – In her ninth and final Condition of the State address on January 13, 2026, Gov. Kim Reynolds declared Iowa strong and focused on property tax relief, veterans’ benefits, rural health, education choice, and government efficiency.

The press release from governor.iowa.gov includes her full prepared remarks, honoring fallen Iowa National Guard soldiers Staff Sgts. William Nathaniel Howard and Edgar Torres-Tovar, killed in a December 2025 Syria attack, and three wounded troops now recovering.

Key proposals:

•  Cap local government revenue growth to curb property tax increases.

•  Freeze property taxes for seniors 65+ on homes valued ≤$350,000.

•  Create first-time homebuyer savings accounts and expand beginning-farmer tax credits.

•  Modernize veterans’ benefits system with performance-based county grants.

•  Invest $50M+ in year one from $209M federal Healthy Hometowns award for cancer screening, treatment hubs, telehealth, and radon mitigation.

•  Ban artificial food dyes in school lunches; require nutrition education for physicians; maintain SNAP junk food restrictions.

•  Ensure equal per-pupil funding and access to activities for public charter schools.

•  Promote local government service sharing and tech partnerships for efficiency.

Reynolds, not seeking reelection, urged bipartisan action: “The condition of our state is strong. And with the work we do here—together—its future will be even stronger.”
