Galena, IL – December 10, 2025 – As festive lights twinkle and gatherings multiply, the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office is ramping up patrols to curb holiday road tragedies.

From December 12 to January 5, deputies will enforce the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High. Get a DUI,” and “Click It or Ticket” initiatives alongside Illinois agencies. Backed by the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) “It’s Not a Game” media drive, the effort targets drunk, drugged, and unbelted drivers.

“This season, safety comes first,” said Lt. Kirk Raab, sheriff’s office spokesperson. “Plan a sober ride, buckle up—no excuses for impairment.”

Authorities outline prevention tips:

• Designate a non-drinking driver or opt for rideshares/public transit.
• Tap local sober ride services.
• Report suspected impaired drivers safely to police.
• Intervene with friends: Secure keys and ensure safe transport.
• Always fasten seat belts to mitigate crash risks.
• Drive distraction-free, under speed limits.

Funded by federal grants through IDOT and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the campaign aims to foster responsible roads amid celebrations.
