DES MOINES – The Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) and law enforcement agencies statewide will increase patrols on Iowa roads through November 30, 2025, to promote safer travel during the Thanksgiving holiday.
With families hitting the road, officials emphasize seat belt use as the simplest and most effective way to prevent death or serious injury in crashes. During Thanksgiving week 2024 (Nov. 24-30), Iowa recorded 17 fatal or serious injury crashes, five involving unrestrained occupants.
“Buzzed driving is drunk driving,” GTSB and the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office remind travelers. Impairment includes alcohol and drugs—If You Feel Different, You Drive Different. Plan a sober ride.
GTSB partners with local, county, and state agencies using federal grants to reduce roadway deaths and injuries.
