
Dubuque, IA — A 41-year-old Dubuque man faces felony and misdemeanor charges following his arrest Monday evening during a domestic disturbance on Alpine Street.
John Daniel Post was taken into custody at 7:04 p.m. on November 11, 2025, at 785 Alpine St. He is charged with:
1. Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Air/Blood Flow Causing Bodily Injury – Class D Felony
2. Possession of Controlled Substance – Serious Misdemeanor
3. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Simple Misdemeanor
Post was held at the Dubuque County Jail. A $5,000 cash or surety bond was posted during his initial appearance on November 12, 2025, before District Associate Judge Mark T. Hostager.
Court records show two criminal complaints were filed by the Dubuque Police Department on November 12. Post filed an application for court-appointed counsel and a financial statement the same day. Attorney Colista K. Bartels entered an appearance on his behalf in a multi-case filing.
Judge Hostager issued a no-contact order with the protected party listed as “CC PRTP.” An order for discovery was also entered by District Judge Kellyann M. Lekar.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 20, 2025, at 10:50 a.m. in Courtroom 3106 at the Dubuque County Courthouse.
The felony domestic abuse charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a fine of up to $10,245. The investigation remains ongoing.
