CLIFTON, WI — On August 31, 2025, at approximately 7:24 AM, a one-vehicle crash on private property at 405 Hopewell Rd in the Township of Clifton left a Georgia man injured after his dogs caused a distraction, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
Gary Calhoun, 42, of Comer, GA, was driving a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado along a private field road leading to a wind turbine site where he was scheduled to perform repairs. Calhoun had two dogs in the vehicle with him, and authorities report that the dogs began fighting. In an attempt to intervene, Calhoun lost control of the truck, crashing into the front of an unhooked semi-trailer parked on the property. The impact wedged the driver’s side of the truck cab under the trailer, trapping Calhoun inside.
The Livingston Fire Department, Livingston First Responders, and Montfort EMS arrived at the scene before sheriff’s deputies and provided immediate medical attention to Calhoun. He was subsequently transported to Southwest Health Center in Platteville for further treatment of his injuries. The Chevrolet Silverado was deemed a total loss.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Livingston Fire Department, Livingston First Responders, and Montfort Rescue Squad. The incident remains under investigation.
