PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — On August 31, 2025, at approximately 1:14 PM, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call reporting a disturbance near Calvary Baptist Church, located at 902 Golfview Drive in Platteville Township. The caller stated that a male had taken a child from a woman and was heading north along Hwy 80, allegedly threatening to harm the child.
Deputies from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the Platteville Police Department and the UW-Platteville Police Department, quickly responded to the scene. It was later determined that the man and woman involved were a couple and the parents of the child.
Upon arrival, a Platteville Police officer began gathering information from the child’s mother. Meanwhile, a sheriff’s deputy located the male suspect walking north along the shoulder of Hwy 80, still holding the child. The deputy issued multiple commands for the man to release the child, but he refused to comply. When the deputy attempted to restrain him to prevent him from leaving with the child, the suspect resisted. With assistance from church members and an off-duty Platteville Police officer, the deputy successfully freed the child. The suspect was then detained as the investigation continued.
No injuries were reported during the incident. Following further investigation, Dylan Behrens, 30, of Platteville, was arrested for Disorderly Conduct and Resisting/Obstructing an Officer. He was transported to the Grant County Jail.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Platteville Police Department and the UW-Platteville Police Department in resolving the incident.
